Choice Superfood Bar and Juicery isn’t your run-of-the-mill eating establishment and owner of the newly opened café, Nastasha McKeon, is thrilled to bring her most recent superfood juicery to San Clemente. She opened her first business nine years ago in San Diego County, and it didn’t take long for the trend to catch on as six other Choice locations soon followed.

Avid regulars from her Carlsbad Village store are part of the surf culture. According to Nastasha, they would ask, “When are you going to open in San Clemente?” Voila! Choice finally made it to San Clemente in October of last year in the prime location at the top of Avenue Del Mar. Baskin Robbins was the prior tenant for many years, and now customers are experiencing a new kind of treat. The PB&J smoothie is a fan favorite. Creamy peanut butter layered with their house-made raspberry chia jam, chocked full of iron, fiber, and Omega 3.

Choice is a destination where locals and tourists can experience a unique take on deliciously approachable healthy vegan eats, superfoods, cold press juices, and smoothies. The protein-based handcrafted smoothies are natural using whole dates and loaded with fiber and minerals. These nutrient-rich shakes were voted best smoothies in San Diego for eight years.

Nastasha has been passionate about health and wellness her whole life. She was in the banking profession working on business plans for clients when she decided to take inventory of her life. She left the bank and became certified and licensed by studying holistic nutrition at Cornell online and plant-based foods through the National Healing Institute (NHI). Her passion for healthy foods began at age 11 when her grandmother died of an auto-immune disease. Following her death, Nastasha found a book, never opened, that was gifted to her grandmother. This book, which was all about the idea that food is medicine, planted the seed. She now not only has eight thriving Choice locations and an online store, but also a cookbook, Plant Food is Medicine, containing over 100 plant-based, gluten-free delicious recipes.

Choice Superfood Bar and Juicery is a family business. As a single mother, Nastasha brings her kids into the business. Tessa, age 19, manages the San Clemente store, and Mikey, age 17, works in the commercial kitchen in Carlsbad. Six-year-old Kora likes to help as well. Nastasha bought a house on an acre of land in Vista with the dream to own a farm and eventually have a farm-to-table restaurant.

With her energetic personality, she doesn’t slow down. Her hobbies include surfing, snow-boarding, Yoga, and reading. In fact, she runs personal development book clubs. She also creates everything on Choice’s menu, which includes soups, power bowls, grab and go entrees and snacks along with cold-press bottled juices, chai teas, elixers, mystic matcha, surges, cleanses, and immunity shots.  For a complete list of menu items, check out the website at www.choicejuicery.com or better yet, come into the superfood bar and juicery to experience the positive atmosphere and enjoy healthy food that tastes good.

“I would only open a store in a town that I would want to spend time in. San Clemente was top on my list,” says Nastasha.
