In 2018, Carson Grier was commissioned to create a mural for the city of Goodyear, Arizona, at the Goodyear Community Park, aiming to evoke feelings of peace and serenity reminiscent
of childhood. Inspired by the idea of a loving little girl holding a Monarch Butterfly with others flying away, he reached out to his close friend Jade Brown in San Clemente, who provided the
perfect model for the project: her granddaughter, Sailor. With a photo of Sailor in a little dress, Grier began bringing the mural to life, engaging with the Goodyear community as they expressed their love for the image, connecting it to their own experiences, whether it reminded them of granddaughters, a passion for Monarch butterflies, or their own butterfly gardens. The mural
garnered significant attention, even being featured in a local news segment.
Recently, Grier was contacted by another local friend, Antoine Price, who wanted to replicate the “Sailor the Butterfly Girl” mural at Cafe Mimosa in San Clemente. Excited about the opportunity to bring Sailor to his own community, Grier looked forward to seeing how she would connect with the people of San Clemente, where many share a love for Monarch butterflies and maintain their own butterfly gardens. This creation is dedicated to all the Monarch butterfly lovers in the town, encapsulated in the phrase, “Pour toi, un bisou papillon” which is now included in the mural ...
“For you, a butterfly kiss.”
