At the top of Avenida Del Mar in a Spanish mission style building adjacent to the Olympic surfer mural alley are two new boutiques. A changing of the guard happened on January 2 of this year when Londyn Shay replaced the Kith and Kin Boutique. New owner, Nicole Panattoni-Nastazio, was thrilled to keep the beautiful vibe of the store and to add her own touch. The Hawaiian mural, framed prints, and Daydreamer brand tees add to the youthful charm.
When asked what the name of the store means, Nicole responded, “Londyn, age 15, is my daughter, and Shay, age 18, is my niece. They are both fashionistas,” says Nicole. Even with the younger vibe of the store, especially with the younger vibe, customers of all ages will find something for their wardrobe.
“My mom loves this store,” says Nicole. She notes that Agolde Jeans are exclusive to Londyn Shay and one of her most sought-after brands. According to Nicole, people come from other cities to purchase the fashion denim.
Also popular among the locals are the San Clemente and Titan gear. A shopper can browse the shop and find the right outfit along with a choice of accessories plus a selection of swimsuits all year long. The trucker hat corner is also a big hit because one can pick a favorite patch to be sewn on inhouse. “Have a nice day” or better yet “this is actually my first rodeo” are among the popular patches.
When asked about the concept for her boutique, Nicole stated, “All my life I’ve been in the fashion world, and now I have a chance to be on the other side of the industry.” Nicole was a model in New York for 23 years modeling swim brands both runway and print, and she was a contestant on the first season of American’s Next Top Model. At the end of her modeling career, when Nicole became pregnant, she modeled maternity clothes.
Able to juggle her full-time job as a sales executive at a title company and run the store, Nicole relies on her two employees, Jenna Roghair and Mary Distefano, San Clemente locals, who bring in customers for events which include mother-daughter get-togethers with food, wine, raffles, and discounts. Future happenings include hosting bachelorette parties, birthday parties, and jewelry bonding. “Jenna and Mary love the store as much as I do,” says Nicole.
Originally from Orange County, Nicole met her husband, Cory Nastazio, in Huntington Beach. Cory, a New York native and well-known extreme sports celebrity, is a retired professional BMX rider. He earned the title in Ripley’s Believe it or Not as the first rider to perform a double backflip on a BMX bike. They live in San Clemente with their kids, Trey, 19, and Londyn, 15. According to Nicole, “You might find Cory working in the shop from time-to-time. His energy is contagious. Customers love him.”
