After more than 50 years in the large two-story warehouse that anchors the Los Molinos industrial district, South Coast Distributing Company, a San Clemente icon, has relocated to the Rancho San Clemente Business Park.
Founded in 1951 by Dick Arons, South Coast Distributing is a wholesaler of janitorial, restaurant and bar supplies that has grown along with the community it serves. With a dedication to delivering quality goods at great value with outstanding customer service, Dick and his small company soon found themselves in great demand. And in 1959 he purchased the warehouse in the industrial district and moved his growing family to San Clemente.
Begun first as a modest business selling goods off the back of a truck to the El Toro and Camp Pendleton Marine bases, SCDC has evolved into a true family business. Dick’s mother and aunt worked in the office into their 90s and at one point all six of Dick’s children worked alongside each other in what became the family’s home away from home at 309 Calle de Los Molinos.
Today Dick’s youngest son, Curt Arons and his wife Angel run the business with a dedication to continuing his father’s legacy, he says, “It was hard to move but the new warehouse is great, and I think my dad would be happy to know the business is still going strong.”
South Coast Distributing Company is open to the public,
weekdays until 4pm, at 221 Calle Pintoresco, San Clemente.
