Casa Classic: Michi Wiancko
Michi Wiancko is a multi-dimensional violinist, composer, and collaborator, whose work was described by Strad Magazine as “intriguing and exquisitely beautiful…music that breaks through the pop classical barrier.”
Wiancko will present a wide variety of music for solo violin, as well as original compositions for violin, loop machine, and vocals. Weaving in and out of different genres and styles, the program will reflect her eclectic taste in music – from composed to improvised, and from classical to folk to indie to electronic. She will also perform one 100% improvised work, inspired by the beauty of Casa Romantica.
Wiancko has performed with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the New York Philharmonic, and a wide variety of both classical and contemporary recording artists. She appeared on The Late Show with Steven Colbert in a performance with indie pop band El Vy. Highlights of her 2017-18 season includes a Steve Reich world premiere in Carnegie Hall with ICE (which will also be recorded for Nonesuch) and performances with Yo-Yo Ma and the Silk Road Ensemble in China, Taiwan, South Korea, and Abu Dhabi. She also writes music for her own band, Kono Michi, which has performed up and down the east coast.
Michi Wiancko was born and raised in San Clemente, CA, where her love of playing violin was nurtured by her family and teachers.Visit Event Website for More Info
