The much anticipated construction project at the intersection of Avenida Pico and I-5 is expected to begin in early 2014. When completed, The Interstate 5 from Avenida Pico to San Juan Creek Road project will improve the heavily traveled Pico interchange and extend carpool lanes on the I-5 between San Juan Creek Road and Avenida Pico. Pico will be expand to 9 lanes beneath the freeway to include two westbound through lanes and three eastbound through lanes, as well as two left-turn lanes to enter the northbound freeway and two left turn lanes to enter the southbound freeway. New bicycle lanes will be added to Pico in both directions beneath the freeway and sound walls added where needed.
